To Me, From Me

To the girl who looks like me and talks like me and smells like me and, okay yeah, is me –

It takes you about 0.436 seconds to come up with a long and detailed list, thirty items long, of things you dislike about yourself. You're too this, you're not enough of that, you should be more like this, you need to do more of that. That's not anything out of the ordinary. I mean, c'mon. People are hard on themselves – that's pretty much one of the first things you'll learn as a psychology major.

But on this day, on this eve of the Lovey Dovey Oh Oopsies Cupid's Going Around Shooting Arrows At People Day, I thought I'd partake in some blatant narcissism and show myself (yourself?) (I knew this would get too confusing) (gah, stop) some love.

So, sweetums, I like how you are so keenly and so clearly aware of who you are and what you like, and you stay true to that always. There's no pretending, there's no hopping on bandwagons (unless it's a bandwagon that you think is quite snazzy, and then you hop on it quicker than a bunny). You know there's no shame in multiple Taco Bell runs a week and staying in, crying over Lifetime movies and having one too many accidental naps. Or maybe there is. But you do it anyway.

But schmoochie pie, you're always up to have an adventure, and I like that about you too. Even if it's just so that you'll have an interesting story to tell on the blog every once in awhile, you prioritize living a life well lived and will never say no to spontaneously driving down to Disneyland in the middle of Finals Week or planning a whirlwind 24 hour trip to Paris even though it was the furthest thing from practical. You embrace change and you always yearn to learn about the things you don't understand.

After your first cup of coffee, you feel like you can take on the world, and your inbox too. You're inspired, tremendously full of heart, and would never say no to dessert. You're driven and passionate and always, always, always grateful. You value kindness and thoughtfulness and humor above all else.

Honey bunches of oats, sure, there are about thirty things you can and should continue working on about yourself. There is always room for self-improvement. But also, sugar pie, know that you're kinda rad too as you are now. Mostly. Sometimes. Every now and then.

Happy Valentine's Day Weekend, Valentines.
