Red Velvet Brings People Together

To cap off 2012,
Brina and I met up with our friend from high school, Jzavon,
who is perhaps one of the funniest people I have ever met.
We had dinner at Cheddar's,
and while waiting for Jzavon's grand arrival,
Brina and I ordered dessert first.
Because why wouldn't you have dessert first?
Especially if dessert is the cutest little red velvet cake w/ cream cheese frosting,
topped off w/ chocolate chips in a shot glass. You just don't say no to that.

It was a cold night.
Cold = sixty degrees.
It's Houston, and that's cold, my friends.
So I opted for a good old-fashioned chicken pot pie,
and it was perfect and hearty and flaky and warm.

And while chowing down on my chicken pot pie,
I listened to Jzavon tell her outrageous stories with the dry commentary
that only she can tell, and I watched Brina shaking her head w/
something in between disbelief and what-are-we-going-to-do-with-her acceptance,
just like in eleventh grade art history class,
when this exact scene happened every day, but in whispers while we
attempted to imitate the rococo style. And there was no chicken pot pie.

It's always nice to be brought back to that place.
And as if that wasn't enough good food,
I had my first meal of 2013 at BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse,
one of my favorite food places ever on the planet,
because of the pizookies, of course.
Here's who joined me:

Sarah. Hello, Sarah's eyeball!

Nicole. Hello, Nicole's hand!

and Vivian. Hello, Vivian's blurry peace sign!

And... hi, me!
:)

I've been best friends (as in BFF4Lyfe) with these girls,
since sixth grade. It hit us that we've been besties
for nine years! Nine years! That's one year away from double-digits!
I can go months without seeing these girls,
but once we do get together,
it's lots of tears of mirth, "remember when's," and new memories to be made.

And of course, good food,
Because I don't do not-good-food.
This southern fried chicken was deeeeelish,
as was...

This beautiful masterpiece,
known to mankind as a red velvet pizookie.
That's life, right there.

(Whoa, I just noticed I started & ended this post w/ red velvet.
So I promptly changed my post title as a nod to its bringing-people-together-for-a-good-time abilities.)
